Increase Your Productivity: Write Where You Are
How moving my computer dramatically increased my writing
If you want to spend more time writing but never seem to get around to it, consider if your writing space is interfering with your writing aspirations.
In my various homes over the years, the locations I set aside for writing varied considerably. More often than not, there was not actually a space that I set aside just for writing. So I was excited when we moved into this house almost seven years ago and there was a spare bedroom that I could stake out as my office.
A large portion of my writing at that time was product reviews, so I needed space to photograph, examine, and test the items. So I got an enormous mid-century wooden desk for my office. It was absolutely perfect for my needs at the time, but because few people want such a big desk, I was able to buy it off the previous owner for just $25.
It was so big, unwieldy, and staggeringly heavy that we almost couldn’t get it upstairs to my office. Halfway up, my husband paused and breathlessly asked, “You’re sure you want this in your office? Because we are never moving this again.”
Yes, I was sure, and it’s been delightful to use.
